Manish Vij informs us that Democrat Jim Webb has declared victory against the racist George ‘Macaca’ Allen.

The 8,359-vote margin is less than half a percent, which lets Allen request a recount after the vote is certified. Absentee and provisional ballots still remain. Allen will probably try to subvert the recount. He’s the incumbent, his party has a history of monkeying with recounts, and Senate control looks like it will rest on it. Virginia is driving distance from Karl Rove’s minions in D.C. But the margin is large enough that it’s unlikely to be overturned. Webb is the new senator from Virginia.

As predicted, the chain of events started by S.R. Sidharth is one of the factors in giving control of Congress to the opposition party and stopping the Iraq war. And the larger lesson drawn by American politicians is, it’s a bad idea to slur desi Americans.
