Crappy Issue
ISLAMABAD, July 5: What discomforts our parliamentarians suffer in private in the Parliament Lodges became public on Wednesday when a plea by more than 100 MPs for Asian-style, floor-level commodes in their suites was turned down. The National Assembly standing committee on house and library ruled that the facility already existed in one of the two bath rooms in each suite and should be sufficient.
A member of the committee told Dawn that Deputy Speaker Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob, who presided over the meeting, endorsed the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) view that the complainants should make do with the existing one Asian and one western style commode as changing them would be a ‘violation’ of master plan of the building.
The meeting was informed that written complaints were received from some parliamentarians belonging to Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) that using the western style commode soiled their clothes and that they could not offer prayers in uncleaned clothes.
On the other hand aged MNAs and senators of other parties found the floor-level WCs difficult to use.
Both sides wanted the CDA to install the WCs of their taste.
The committee rejected the plea of parliamentarians of all sides and asked them to live with whatever was available.
