Muslims: 4, Gays: 0
“Players of a Muslim team (in black) fight for the ball with players from a gay side (in white) during a soccer match in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, March 21, 2006. The soccer tournament was organised as part of a conference on fighting discrimination against immigrants who come out as gay — particularly, against gay Muslims by other Muslims.” REUTERS/Michael Kooren
The scores from the other matches were Latinos: 8, Women: 0; and Muslims: 4, Latinos: 1. (I know, I know, the matches were being played to fight prejudice, but, for those who are guided by final scrores, wouldn’t the results reinforce bigoted assumptions?) What I’d like to see next is a match-up between Hindus and Muslims–but wait! isn’t that in a sense what India-Pakistan matches are about, despite the presence of Muslims among the Indians and a single Hindu among their rivals? Or is that true only of the wars we fight?
Thanks for the report, Linta Varghese.

I don’t think so. Only the Pakistani side brings religion into it. Religion is a personal matter in India and it should remain so or we’ll be fighting each other like the Pakistanis are doing.
