Pundits from Pakistan

Although it’s midnight where I am, the cricket match between India and Pakistan has just begun in Rawalpindi. The ball is moving a bit in the morning air, and Irfan Pathan, in the idiom of cricket writers, has “drawn first blood.”
Talking of the language of sports writers, Rahul Bhattacharya’s wonderful work of reportage-plus-travelogue Pundits from Pakistan has been shortlisted for the 2005 Cricket Society Book of the Year. Congratulations and good luck!
